Producing Low-Carbon Building Materials

• RCC and our sister plant outside Miami are the first in the United States to fully convert to Type IL (low-carbon) cement production, which features a 15 percent lower carbon footprint.

Sustainable Business Practices

• RCC is the only cement plant in the United States to be recognized among the nation’s top energy performers by ENERGY STAR® for 17 consecutive years.
• RCC’s energy management system has been certified to the ISO 50001 standard, which makes us an industry leader in energy reduction. We’ve reduced our energy consumption by 12 percent over the past 5 years, the equivalent of what it would take to power 2,000 homes.

Environmental Stewards

• Many of our employees are active members in the community. We currently maintain and provide access to the Andy Layne Trail on our property, which provides access to the Appalachian Trail.
• We adopted a two-mile section of Catawba Creek that runs through our property, where employees have voluntarily removed all trash and debris for the past 15 years.
• We have been a member of the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program since 2013 and our campus includes a 98-acre riparian buffer, a trout pond and an apple orchard certified through the Wildlife Habitat Council.
